Our Story.
Rock āN Refuge is a family-owned and operated beef farm and vacation rental destination. My father bought the property in 2010 so my mother could have a place to keep a few horses and so our family had a spot to escape to on the weekends. She always believed this land could be a place where people found refuge from their troubles and the pace of everyday life.
David and I eventually moved out here to help get the farm on its feet, not fully knowing what we were stepping into. My parents, siblings, cousins, and all of our spouses and children spend weekends and holidays on the farm together. Wanting everyone to have a comfortable place to stay, my dad built the Honeymoon Cabināa log cabin kit from Pioneer Log Systems in Kingston Springs, TN. Their crew assembled the structure, and David completed and decorated the entire interior..
Then dad decided that wasnāt quite big enough and while he was building the horse barn for my mom, he decided a living space above it would be great for the family. Hence, the Barn was born. A big space where we can all gather, sleep and eat. The Barn was built by a local Mennonite family. The Millerās in Lobelville, Tn. Again, they did all the exterior, floors and walls and David was able to finish up the bathrooms, bedrooms and decorating.
In 2014, we discovered Airbnb and figured it might help us earn a little extra income while our beautiful buildings sat empty for weeks at a time. We listed the Honeymoon Cabin, and just a few hours later we received our first booking. It became so busy that I left my job in Nashville and began working on the farm full time while staying home with our children.
The Honeymoon Cabin did so well that Dad decided to build something truly uniqueāand thatās how Serenity House, our treehouse, came to life. Built by Don Madill, his sons, and their crew over eight months, Serenity House quickly became another guest favorite. As always, David handled the interior finish and design.
By 2017, Serenity House was thriving, and Dad was ready for his next idea: a Hobbit Hole. Wee Nook was added to the property and finished in April 2018, again with Don Madill and his sons designing and building the structure, and David completing the interior.
Today, weāre grateful to share our farm with anyone seeking a place to slow down, reconnect, and find refuge from everyday life. In many ways, my momās original vision for this land has come true.
